UCAT Quantitative Reasoning: Format and Preparation

Quantitative Reasoning is one of the four current UCAT subtests. It assesses the ability to critically evaluate information presented in numerical form. Applicants should use the official UCAT test-format guidance as the primary source for current requirements.

What the Subtest Involves

The current UCAT format includes 36 Quantitative Reasoning questions, with 26 minutes for the subtest after the timed instruction section. Questions use numerical information and require careful interpretation, calculation and selection of an answer from the options provided.

A Practical Preparation Routine

Practice is more useful when students review their method after each question. When an answer is incorrect, check whether the problem came from reading the information, selecting an operation, handling units, using the on-screen calculator or managing time.

• Use the official tutorials to become familiar with the current test tools.
• Practise short sets of questions before moving to timed sessions.
• Show a clear calculation method when practising, then compare it with the answer rationale.
• Use full practice tests nearer the test date to rehearse timed conditions.
